Welcome to Russell Aviation

Who knew that learning to fly could be so enjoyable? With Russell Aviation, you'll learn to fly in mountainous terrain from some of the best mountain flight instructors in the country. Yes, the flying is trickier -- but the views of the Rocky Mountains are magnificent, and the stops along the way are spectactular.

While traveling on our training adventures, we stay at historic lodges and hotels, not your run-of-the-mill tourist motels. You will enjoy the cool clear nights of the Rocky Mountains, the inspiring views of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument, and sampling a hearty buffalo or elk steak in a charming "local" restaurant. Believe us, these are just a small example of the experiences you'll cherish forever.

If you would prefer that we come to you for your training, then that is also an option that we can also provide.

Owner Mickey Russell has long known what most students find out the hard way: traditional flight training is slow, frustrating and unnecessarily redundant. Intensive training is how professional pilots train. The best way to learn is to focus on the process of learning, away from the distractions of day-to-day life. Military, airline, corporate and government flight operations all train on a full-time basis. In fact, the only segment of aviation that doesn't train full time is general aviation. Russell Aviation offers accelerated, turnkey training solutions designed for each student.

To help pilots train intensively, Russell Aviation has developed several accelerated cross-country courses, each of which is an aviation adventure to remember for a lifetime. We teach you how to fly while on a cross-country trip around Colorado and the western United States. You will also learn to be creative, flexible, and to solve problems when they happen.

Russell Aviation provides a more "real world" environment for your flight training. We take our flight training adventures seriously, evaluating airports, flying alternative training routes, and even inspecting hotel rooms, first-hand. We've spent over 9 years researching the most beautiful routes to benefit our students.

Russell Aviation instructors are experts in the Diamond DA-40 and the TwinStar DA042.  We also have provided owner training in the Cirrus SR20/SR22, Columbia 400 and all Cessna, Beechcraft and Piper singles and most twins.

All of our instructors have at least 2000 hours of flight time. Our instructors are well-qualified, patient and dedicated teachers.

Russell Aviation instructors consider your safety as their top priority. Imagine the difference in the quality and efficiency of the training you will receive with this kind of top-notch instructor.

We will train you to be a safer, more competent pilot. We don't guarantee you will pass your check ride. We do guarantee that you will learn more here in a few days and gain more real world, cross-country experience than you would using your local flight school.

The teaching philosophy of Russell Aviation is that there is a right way and a wrong way to teach pilots and that safety is always first. We strongly believe that learning to fly can also be an ADVENTURE that is FUN. Basic learning theory supports this position -- positive experiences are remembered, but negative experiences are forgotten. If you are having FUN, you will remember what is being taught. Learning to fly with Russell Aviation will be an ADVENTURE you will not forget.
